On February 24 our sixth grade spelling bee winners competed against 6th, 7th and 8th grade finalists in the District Spelling Bee. Our 6th graders were able to capture four of the top five placings! These same students traveled to Cokeville on the 2nd of March to compete on the county level.
We are thrilled with their achievement!!!
Top honors again!!!
Three of the top four were from Osmond!!! And our fourth competitor placed 7th.!

Connor Johnson, a 5th grade student at Osmond Elementary, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on 1/11/2010 and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round in the 22nd annual National Geographic Bee. This year’s Bee is sponsored by Google.

On May 20 CAT (Cougar Archery Team) hosted Etna Elementary for their second dual competition. The Mustangs have been working hard in an effort to redeem themselves from the CAT’s overwhelming previous victory.
Galloping to the lead Etna 4th grader, Khalil Algaar, won the competition by a nose giving the Mustangs the top spot. Trailing by just one point Osmond’s Cameron Walker placed second with our own Triston Mack taking third.
The rest of the placings are:
4th (A 3-way tie); Reese Hiibel, Ashley Passey, and Hunter Whitney – all from Osmond
5th; Abbye Johns – Osmond
6th; Brandon Call – Osmond
7th; Dillan Ortman – Etna

Attention students and parents:
As of May 21, 2009 students may wear appropriate length shorts for the remainder of the school year.
Beach Day will be celebrated on May 26, 2009. Students may wear (that day only) flip flops, hats, and sun glasses. Tank tops and swim suits are not allowed. Come prepared to have fun!

On April 16 our very own newly formed Cougar Archery Team – CAT stealthily entered the Etna Elementary gym for their first competition. Team members have been meeting after school with teacher/advisor Jeff Whitney and assistant coach Garrett Engen preparing to compete in a National Archery in the Schools Competition.
Our CAT’S pounced on the unsuspecting Mustangs and captured the top ten places. All of the hard work paid off!

Dry Creek Academy Begins!
The winter session of Dry Creek Academy will begin on Monday, January 12. Sign up sheets have been sent home and need to be returned before Friday, January 9. We are offering five exciting classes. You may choose:
- Archery – Learn archery skills and have a great time shooting a bow and arrow with Mr. Whitney.
- Airplane Adventures - Investigate the world of aviation. Learn from community experts as well as build, paint and create airplanes. Also fly your own airplane using a computerized airplane simulator.
- American Indian Culture - Experience the life of American Indians. Complete leather-craft projects, and other Indian crafts, learn dances and music, and reenact an American Indian experience.
- Spanish - Remember how much fun you had learning Spanish in Afton Elementary with Mr. Hoopes. Come join him to learn more.
- Discovery Club - Discover the exciting world around you. Program lego robots, build a radio, create simple machines, and take field trips around Star Valley.
You may take more than one class! Check out the information sheet that was sent home for more details.
